The First Time I Saw The Ocean

I am blessed to have the ability to have just hung up the phone after having a very warm call to my 89 year old Father. I decided to all my Dad and tell him I love him and to make sure he knew my most memorable reflection I have had in my life was with him.

I explained that day when I was a very little kid I was with my Dad holding his hand when I saw the Ocean for the first time. I remember my Dad was walking across a highway toward sand on the other side. I remember it was in the morning and my Dad’s hand felt soft in my hand. I felt perfectly safe and protected.

We crossed the street and we started stepping through the very fine grains of and. You know the kind. As we kept moving foward over the and, I saw small plants growing out of the dunes. The last dune we crested, I saw this beautiful deep blue body of endless water from as far as I could see in front of me and as wide as I could see from side to side.

I remember looking up to my dad with my heart fluttering and saying “Dad, It’s Beautiful”.

As I said I just got off the phone with Dad and it was an amazing call that I had the lucky privilege to share that with Dad and tell him how much I love him.

I know that many of us dont have that blessing to say “I love you” or express to a parent how much they mean to us because its too late.

I’m aware of that possibility so that is why I don’t waste a day and tell my Dad how much he means to me.

So satisfying to have unconditional love.

That love that only exist with your parents.

Dads Top Drawer

I remember when I was a kid what an awesome adventure it was to sneak into my Dad’s top drawer whenever the opportunity presented itself. When I opened the drawer I might as well have been a pirate and discovered all the gold on a deserted island. Thats how awesome it felt.

In this drawer was all the earths treasures. There was a couple of old silver dollars, some old military ID cards, tattered black and white picture of mom when she was young, old pennies with wheatback.

Back then 12 cents would get you a bottle of Pepsi and a hostess cupcake. Yes I did.

So now I have my own treasure box in my bedroom. My top drawer has become a treasure box all to its own. Below is a list of the treasures I have in my top drawer.

Silver Parachutist Badge, 2 large marble squares, miniature die-cast motorcycle, old military I.D. card, “no escort required” badge, 1 silver dollar, solid gold cross, a deck of “Iraq’s Most Wanted” cards, Vietcong “death” card, loose change, old keys that for some reason I cant throw away, The bible on CD (which is junk but I cant throw away as it feels like a sin), silver cuff links, a gold watch, and a silver watch.

If I should ever have another child, I dont think I would make my top drawer off limits, but share and delight together on the neat things in there. Maybe make the kids own “Dads Top Drawer”

LIST OF MEMORIES TO PULL FROM BELOW

Mother

Father

Bio Father

Uncle Mickey

Cat Poisoned

BMX

Tim

Dads Top Drawer

My first wave surfing

Wally

Cheating Ex

Key West

Army

Coast Guard

California Life

My First Time Feeling Love For A Girl

In this post, I will attempt to document my childhood memories as I recall them.
