Stop and Listen!<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When we have conversations with each other at the work place, on the phone, at the Starbucks, chance run-ins’s,\u00a0 most of us are not really listening, therefore we are not really communicating.\u00a0 Here is a experiment for you.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The next time you have a conversation with anyone,\u00a0 take note on what your doing.\u00a0 What most do is as the other person is speaking, we are thinking about the next thing were going to say as soon as the other person stops talking.\u00a0 When they finish then you open your mouth and you begin to say words back, and then the other person begins thinking about what they are going to say next.\u00a0 Its labeled “Already Always Listening”.\u00a0 So what is happening is their are four conversations going on at the same time, and nobody is really listening!!\u00a0\u00a0 And if your not listening, then your really not communicating.<\/p>\n

Now\u00a0in this conversation force yourself not to think about what you want to say next, and truly listen to what the person is saying, and respond to that.\u00a0 Keep it up in this one conversation.\u00a0 It wont be easy because you are breaking a habit you have been doing all your life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here is the payoff.\u00a0 At the end of this conversation the other person will walk away from that chat and be thinking how smart, warm, clever, intelligent you are.\u00a0 They wont really know why, but what they will have experienced with you is real conversation.\u00a0 True communication.<\/p>\n

Remember this.\u00a0 Communication feels <\/em>like love.\u00a0 They will begin to gravitate towards you and really not know why.\u00a0 But to\u00a0 truly communicate with someone is rare these days.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sometimes you hear someone say that they had a really “deep” conversation with someone.\u00a0 No, they did not.\u00a0 They had a conversation.\u00a0 One where each other was really listening and the only way we know how to describe this rare event is\u00a0 to label it “deep”.<\/p>\n

So go ahead.\u00a0 This experiment can be fun.\u00a0 Try it out today during your interaction today at work.\u00a0 You will notice a big difference in all your relationships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
